Stop the Chat!
Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003

So first thing in the news today. Microsoft announces that it's chat rooms are being closed! Strange I thought, as every waking Mother sighs a breath of relief and every anti-internet fiend says 'good' under their thoughts.

But hang on a minute! I read between the lines, and it turns out that Microsoft are actually (or is it probably), only closing the chat rooms that do not require a user to register in order to enter! Now this has to be the case surely? Why? well have you ever used Windows XP? I'm talking about MSN or Microsoft messenger that has to be installed and has to run in the background along with our e-mail program!

So good old bill gates really wants everyone under the sun to have an MSN program running away merrily whether they like it or not, picking up crap beyond belief. They don't really care about internet- or is it child abuse, after all surely?

I'm sure the perception is that it's a feather in the leaders cap. Nothing could be further from the truth! Some of us do not want to have MSN even installed or buzzing away in the background at all. (If you try really hard there is a way to disable it).

I'm sure what they are really worried about is their own security issues. I bet they won't ship XP without messenger or even allow it not to be installed!

There's nothing like pure knowledge as a weapon. It takes two to tango. Someone mentioned to me the other day that they were disgusted that there is a website dedicated to suicide methods! - Now you really can blame the internet for EVERYTHING can't you!!
