The Mike Cutmore Website!

FAQ

Q: How long has this site been running?

Since 10th July 2000

Q: What is this Website?

It is a totally personal website dedicated to anything that interests me. I have included my main interests and hobbies so far covering some fairly diverse subjects. More will follow.

Q: What is the point of this Website?

For entertainment or information, it is my personal contribution to the internet providing an accessible portal for myself and everyone to share things I have discovered or enjoyed and also what you may have too. As you can see I started this before we had the facebooks, myspaces, bebos and twitters of this world (don't you just hate all those annoying registrations).

Q: How much did this website cost you?

Absolutely nothing! I am hosted by several leading providers including tripod ' they provide limited FREE webspace (hence the annoying adverts- sorry about that). I dont even have to pay for my own Internet access either - it comes with my telephone provider TalkTalk. My very own 'blog' or what I call my 'current' diary page is hosted for free by diaryland. Some of my images are hosted for free by photobucket and all my photo albums are hosted free by flickr.

Q: Do you earn any money from this website?

I'm well on my intended forecast target for financial returns so far: - ZERO! Long-time readers will know that this website is not part of some commercial publishing empire's stable of publications. Better sites have come and gone during the time this has existed. There is no budget, staff or facility to handle any promotion of any kind, linked or otherwise. This site depends on word of mouth to grow. I merely try to propagate useful, interesting and amusing information and entertainment to the public domain based on my own activities, beliefs and or interests.

Q: I have never heard of 'Mike Cutmore', who is he, you?

Possibly, just a Tom, Dick or Harry. The whole point of this is that you have discovered something or someone now and can share something with me, as I can with you (if you want). The Internet is purely 'The sum of its parts' that's all. Do you LIKE the Internet? I find it useful. Don't YOU want to contribute to it too? I do. Seriously, - I wouldn't even want a computer, unless it was connected to another one! Who among us is without flaw? Fame is merely a result never an aim!

Q: How long did it take to construct your website?

My website is still under construction and always will be. It is a tentative process. I very often make minute changes to certain detail, but generally it is a building process- the work you see here will remain but be enhanced, updated and more material will gradually be added in time. I told you when it all began and it certainly hasn't finished!

Q: Don't you have better things to do?

When I am not engaged in thinking about those things that earn salaries. I dream, self-analyse, remonstrate for errors committed, and self-flagellate for even having the audacity to attempt many of my self-absorbing pursuits. Like me you yourself may have had to labour for years to accumulate any kind of financial background to enable yourself to indulge in a divertissement that can never ever amount to more than a hobby! The kinds of things that are really life are never intended to be capable of paying the rent, the butcher and the baker. Indeed, the 'better' things that I probably have to do are the very things that I created this website all about in the first place. I'd rather be flying!

Q: Is this a pay site? Do visitors have to pay for other pages or links from your site?

NO, this is NOT a pay site. Visitors DO NOT have to pay for any pages on The Mike Cutmore Website! I have personally endorsed links from my site. Where there is software or professional services offered it is either to be FREEWARE or exceptional value for money. I discovered long ago that the real definition between amateur and professional is that one of these requires money. It does not mean it is better or worse. In most cases registration is not even necessary. When it is, an e-mail address is normally all that is required, nothing more. If, however, you owe me money, need to pay me money, for whatever reason, or you simply don't agree with this being a free site, you can donate money to me totally securely through here via paypal. You could even click here to buy me a gift membership of diaryland!

Q: Will any e-mail addresses submitted be used for spamming?

NO! In my experience if an e-mail address appears on any open website page on the internet it is normally likely that sooner or later it could be robotically obtained and used for spamming purposes. I have included anti-spam links that should help anyone to fight root causes of bulk e-mails. I detest them. Since no one likes to receive heaps of stuff about get-rich-quick schemes or sites where they can download supposedly free porn or otherwise, no one has to submit their e-mail address to sign my guestbook! No one wants to be put on any crummy distribution lists! Be aware that I ALWAYS report spam (junk) mail to the authorities by tracing all header information, & ALWAYS enjoy causing junk mail operators lots of pain. Any help you can offer on this is greatly appreciated.

Q: How much time do you get to spend on the Internet?

Since I do have a 'broadband' connection, I can spend as long as I want on line. I'm normally on at least briefly every single day for one reason or another.

Q: Do you only review recent movies? Why don't you review every movie you see, including TV and Video /DVD's?

My Movie reviews page introduces my short 'write ups' on any latest films that I see at the Cinema. As they become older, they are naturally released on Video / DVD, eventually. The reviews remain on my page for reference to enable reading at later dates. I see many older films, of course on TV, and i usually do write-ups for these via my Ginq page. I also rate them out of ten on the IMDb, for my own benefit. Always try a specific search using my sites engine though, it saves crawling through my reviews!

Q: Can I link to your website or any page within it, or place your banners on my own page or website?

Yes please! I thought that this was the whole idea of the internet (share and share alike), or maybe I have got the wrong idea after all! You can copy and use my banners, link to me or even place your website URL in my bookmarks and links. Or why not just sign my guestbook and let me know who you are (you don't have to leave your e-mail address). I like personal / hobby, informative or 'non affiliate' orientated sites the most, or any sites like my own that are not specifically out to make a 'fast buck'.

Q: Why is your webcam never live?

Because you are never here when I am! Actually, it is on occasionally, and when it is, it is either my yahoo messenger webcam or the camarades one (not both).

Q: Have you answered any other questions?

Loads! Take a look at them on my diaryland surveys page.
