Crossing the bridge
Monday, Sept. 29, 2003

Living in the south east of the UK, one spends a great deal of time getting 'over the water' and, of course back again! I'm talking about the dartford river crossing - or what perhaps is probably better known as the dartford bridge. Actually it's the 'QE2 bridge'. Well the tunnels (don't forget them) are no less spectacular just because they are buried underground. So isn't this the crossing that was completed with the promise that 'once it is paid-for, the tolls WILL stop?'

An educational weekend, anyway. Trying to unlock a mobile phone which is 'tied to one network'. You know the situation- you get a bargain phone (from a reliable source), only to find that it is locked by the network operator to - wait for it - their network only!

Well apparantely getting the darn thing unlocked, is, (so I'm told), not illegal. So what if you don't want to pay the network operator through the nose for the unlocking code? - The good old guy on the local market stall comes into play, of course!

Most of the non-independant retailers are not touching this game with a barge pole now, and gave me a lot of bull, even to the extent of parrot style quotes like 'you cannot'.

What you certainly cannot do in the UK, is change the IMEI (unique indentification code) number - now that IS definately illegal! But you can unlock many modern phones YOURSELF, remotely and without any special equipment or software!

I am currently unlocking Nokia mobiles for only 99 pence! Contact me for your unlock code, and you can easily pay via paypal. Alternatively do it the hard way, and pay so much more by trying an unlocking search (lycos UK).
